Sunrise on Rough Ridge

More landscape work today! This is an interesting photograph to me, because what I like about it is what it could be, not what it actually is. I don’t think this actual picture is all that great. The sunrise that morning was cloudless and very bland in the color and light department as a result. Since this was taken in early October, the trees really don’t have any color in them yet. So why is it an interesting photograph to me? Because I’m excited about this location. In the right conditions at the right time of year, some amazing images can be made here. It has the perfect strong foreground element that ultra-wide shots in the mountains need. The main vista doesn’t have the sun direrctly in the composition for either sunrise or sunset. It’s a short hike to this spot. And best of all, it’s only a couple miles from our friends’ house in Foscoe where we go to visit often, meaning I will have many opportunities to catch the right light there. So look at this photograph through the eyes of what could be in the future and not so much what it actually is right now.
